Tūī Kids

Tūī Kids (2)_edited.jpg

Tūī Kids (previously Mainly Music) is a music and movement programme for babies / toddlers / preschoolers and their caregivers, which runs every Tuesday during term time, 9.30-10.30am at Waiau Pā Hall. We recommend arriving at 9.15am, as we start the music session at 9.30am.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Waiau Pā Hall is located at the corner of McKenzie Rd and Waiau Pā Rd (across the road from the Four Square). Our team is there from about 8.45am setting up, and families are welcome to arrive from this time - you can come after school/kindy drop off.

When you arrive, see Marion at the sign in table. She’ll take your details (please fill in our google registration form ahead of time if you can, see link below) and give your child their card to put a sticker on. There’s space for adults to sit and littlies to play before we start our music session.

Tūī Kids is free to families, thanks to funding from the Tindall Foundation and support from Waiau Pā Church.

At 9.30am, we start our music session. This is run by Liz Kelso, who’s an experienced kindy and primary school teacher with a background in music education and ECE education. Songs are a variety of upbeat and slower songs, some with large movements and others with smaller actions, to encourage both gross and fine motor development. We use instruments such as shakers, drums and clave, and props such as scarves, beanbags, teddies and animal pictures - and of course the popular lycra and parachute songs.  If your child prefers to sit back and observe that’s ok too!

At 10am we have morning tea together, provided by our team - usually things like baking, fruit, cheese, crackers, biscuits and tea/coffee/water. You’re also welcome to bring a lunchbox for your child, and a water bottle is a good idea.  The children then enjoy a time of free play.

Tūī Kids is brought to you by Waiau Pā Church, and is run by church members and locals from the community. We have a variety of families attending - Mums, Dads, Grandparents and Caregivers bringing their little ones. It’s a great way to meet and get to know other locals in the community.

Our songs are usually related to a theme, and we have the same songs/theme for 3 weeks. We also like to include songs in te reo Māori and NZ sign language. We take a break over the school holidays, and the last Tuesday of every term is a ‘requests’ session, which includes the children’s favourite Tūī Kids songs. This is also a dress-up day, where littlies are welcome to wear their favourite costumes if they’d like.

New registrations are always welcome - come along and visit, we’d love to see you.
